Introduction

The Columbia River Basin Ethnic History Archive contains images of different ethnic group materials held in four historical archives in the region. These materials are from different times in the history of the Basin. There are photographs, oral histories, pictures of objects, and more. All of the images have been described or cataloged.

One can search for images about an ethnic group from a specific collection, such as from the Oregon Historical Society, or from a specific decade, or in a particular format, like photographs.

One may also search the Archive by subject, using the subject heading list. These subject headings have been used to catalog the images in the Archive. One may also search the Archive with keywords. Keyword searching finds images with cataloging information that matches up with a searchers own keywords.

When searching the Archive it is important to know how to use logical commands to broaden or narrow your search. What are these logical commands? These are small words, AND and OR which will give you great control when searching the Archive.
